Biblical affirmations? Is that even a thing? So, you may be asking yourself, “How do you use biblical affirmations”? Are there affirmations in the bible? What does God say about affirmations?
All of these are normal questions, and I’ve asked them myself.
In this brief article, we will cover some of the most common questions people ask when it comes to biblical affirmations.
I’m glad your here! Let’s dive into understanding this topic.
1st off, Affirmations are positive statements used to encourage yourself and boost self-esteem. You can use affirmations to defy negative thoughts, help overcome anxiety, and to increase self-love.
Are there affirmations in the bible?
No, you probably won’t find any specific affirmation in the bible as affirmations were not a trendy thing back then.
You will however find decrees, declarations, and blessings in the bible. Deuteronomy is full of biblical affirmations in the form of a chapter full of blessings.
Also, we see in Job 22:28 this, “Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light shall shine upon thy ways.”
Decrees are a biblical thing! They are not any different from biblical affirmations. With affirmations, you are decreeing and declaring certain things over your life to bring about positive change or outcomes.
When you use biblical affirmations, you are doing the same thing, but you have the power of scripture behind your words!
Are affirmations Biblical?
Yes, I believe that affirmations (or decrees) are biblical.
Let’s take a look at a couple of scriptures that have led me to the decision to use biblical affirmations in my own life.
- Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”
Here we see it plain as day that our words have power so powerful that we can speak life or death into our own lives by way of our mouth. That’s some powerful stuff!
- Mark 11:23-24 “I tell you the truth, if someone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
Again, Jesus is showing us the importance of our words and how powerful they are. Here Jesus says that if someone say’s (using speech) to this mountain be removed and cast into the sea they shall have whatever they say.
Be removed and cast into the sea is a declaration to that mountain!
Of course, we must believe what we are saying and not doubt in our hearts.
- Proverbs 16:24 “ Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Here we see the importance of kind words in scripture. We know that they are good for our soul and our health, so why not use our words to life to our bodies, souls, and minds.

What does God say about affirmations?
In Romans 4:17, God told Abrabraham that he had made him the father of many nations. Scripture then gives us a characteristic of God. “even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.”
Did you see that? God is a God that calls things that be not as though they were. We are created in the image of God, and we are called to be imitations of him.
God created with his mouth and professed statements such as “I AM THAT I AM”
In Conclusion: Are There Affirmations in the bible
I strongly believe that using affirmations is a good thing, and that biblical affirmations can be helpful and enlightening.
Jesus said that we will have what we say!
Why not say something positive about yourself and your situation on purpose?
Yes, on purpose!
The beautiful thing about biblical affirmatios is that you don’t have to wait around for something good to happen to you. You can create with your mouth. You can control your feelings by changing what you think and say.
Also, I love that with biblical affirmations the foundation for all of your affirmations is already written for you.
All you have to do it find the scripture that best fits your situation and use tyhose same words to create whatever sentence feels roght for you.
You can also leave the scripture as is and recite it over yourself!
So go forth in confidence and do your affirmations and decrees.
There is no crime in speaking good things over your life!
