Hebrews 4:9-11

” There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

Welcome to Womens Daily Devotionals. In this bite-sized devotional we will see that God has called us to rest from our labours as he did from his.

The good news is that the rest of God has been made available to you!

Hebrews 4:1 tells us that God has a promised rest for us. It further goes on to say that we should be afraid if we at any point should fall short of entering into that promised rest…..God’s rest.

So many of us struggle with allowing ourselves to rest on a daily basis, both physically or mentally.

Our bodies and minds were designed to get things done, make a new life, and be creative. But they were also designed to rest. But how?

The biggest problem is that we don’t fully understand what it means to rest, how to properly rest, or what were resting in. In this case, WHO WERE RESTING IN.

Once overwhelm hits, we strive to enter into rest by resting from our labours. Although this is a part of the process there is a major piece that must come first!

It’s an exchange between you can God! This must happen in order for you to truly rest (both physically & mentally).

So what part am I missing? Why is it is hard for me to cease from my labour and cease struggling?

THE MISSING PIECE IS FIRST RESTING IN JESUS, AND THE FINISHED WORK ON THE CROSS!

AFTER ALL, WHAT ARE YOU FIGHTING FOR? THE BATTLE WAS ALREADY WON 2,000 YEARS AGO!

Hebrews 4 tells us that we are to LABOUR to enter into HIS rest. Once we allow ourselves to enter into HIS rest then and only then can we cease from our own works.

This lets us know that once you’ve entered into the REST OF GOD, you cease from your own striving.

Why? because you have already found the rest that you are looking for in Christ. In the finished work.

In the final verse (verse 11) The writer encourages us to LABOUR to enter into the rest of God instead of our own.

The word labour here means to be diligent. This gives us a clue that we will have to work at this daily! Resting in God will have to be a daily choice that you make.

Hewbrews 4:11

Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

This particular verse really spoke to me as I struggle sometimes with resting both physically and mentally.

I honestly have to LABOUR to do this daily as I naturally drift away from it.

In this verse, we see that NOT entering into HIS rest is a form of unbelief! Whoa! Really!

Not resting in God is a form of unbelief! This changed everything for me!

I want to be pleasing to God, and I didn’t want to be living in a state of unbelief, so the only choice was to begin labouring to enter the rest of God.
