Why You’ll Love this Matcha Banana Smoothie Recipe
Besides matcha green tea being one of the healthiest things you can drink, it’s also very delicious yet comforting!
Matcha has this smooth subtle taste that is very unique to the taste buds. Plus, this matcha banana smoothie is so easy and cheap to make!
For the longest, I heard about matcha powder but never tried it. I was always a green tea drinker instead.
I have to say, that once I gave matcha green tea powder a try I was hooked. I even find my body craving it on certain days.
Trying it in a smoothie is a great option because you can add things like bananas and other supplements to boost your nutritional intake.
Matcha powder is potent so a little goes a long way, which keeps more money in your pocket. Plus, it’s not that expensive. A good grade of matcha green tea powder will run you anywhere from $12-20 dollars.
How to Make a Vegan Matcha Banana Smoothie
A big bonus is that you can turn this smoothie recipe into a vegan smoothie very easily! All you need to do is replace your standard milk with any non-dairy milk substitute.
Also, if you’re adding in any protein powders or additional supplements, of course, you want to make sure they are vegan as well.
Yep, that easy!
Non-Dairy Substitute Recommendations
I personally do not drink milk, so I only prefer this matcha banana smoothie to be made vegan.
I have used a couple of different milk substitutes and have found the following to taste the best:
- Almond milk
- Coconut milk
Tip: Be careful when selecting almond milk as some brands tend to have unhealthy additives like sugar, lecithin, and carrageenan. I prefer milk substitutes that are free of sugars, lecithins, and carrageenans.

3. Wilderness Poets, Organic Ceremonial Matcha, 1 oz
Ceremonial grade matcha powder has a higher potency than culinary grade matcha powders. The ceremonial matcha powder is used in Japanese cultures during a tea ceremony. This grade of matcha is not typically used as an addition to dinks and smoothies; however, if you are looking for the highest quality possible this is the one for you.

Tip: Because of the caffeine content in matcha powder, I would suggest that you not drink this smoothie on an empty stomach. Especially if you are sensitive to caffeine. Don’t get me wrong, It is great as a morning breakfast! Just make sure you eat an apple or pear (something small) beforehand.
Tips to Make The best Matcha Banana Smoothie
When making your matcha banana smoothie receipt you want to do a few things to ensure you’re getting the best taste, quality, and overall nutritional benefit.
- Choose a high-quality matcha powder, to begin with
- Get ripe bananas for better digestion and taste
- (If vegan) Choose a clean milk-substitute option. You have to be careful when choosing milk substitutes as a lot of them contain harmful additives. I personally like Simply Almond Milk. They have a sugar-free option plus it’s free of lecithins, and carrageenans.
- (If using milk) Try a company that uses grass-fed cows/organic milk – click here for more info on the best dairy brands.
- Use organic spinach when possible– spinach is one of those vegetables that you want to get organic due to the high amounts of pesticide residue.
- Purchase local raw honey as your sweetener – This is no secret, but most honey found in the grocery stores has been so processed that it is no longer honey! Be sure to grab local raw honey to enjoy all the nutritional benefits.
- Add in additional supplements like maca powder or bone broth powder for an extra boost.
Tip: Because matcha powder contains caffeine, opt to drink this as a healthy breakfast option or a mid-morning/evening snack. I would avoid making this matcha banana smoothie at night.
