This chocolate banana cacao smoothie is easy to make, delicious, keeps you full, and it’s healthy. Plus, it can easily be made as a vegan smoothie or non-vegan smoothie.

I personally make this smoothie as a vegan smoothie, but it is just as good should you decide to use milk made from cows.

A Cacao smoothie is just as good as some of the traditional chocolate smoothies that I have tasted.

To be completely honest, I actually like drinking a cacao smoothie vs. traditional chocolate smoothies.

In my humble opinion, they taste better, are healthier, and give you more energy.

This healthy chocolate smoothie does include peanut butter and bone broth protein powder. Yes, bone broth protein powder!

Bone broth protein powder does not sound very tasty, but I urge you to keep reading as you will find that it only provides health benefits to your cacao smoothie and does not hinder the taste at all!

I make this smoothie at least twice a week, and I have found that these two ingredients give it a very smooth and thick consistency.

Raise your hand if you love a thick and smooth smoothie! 😊

The key here is going to be a good grade of cacao powder, chocolate bone broth protein powder, and ice.

Why not heal your gut and enjoy a healthy chocolate smoothie at the same time?

Why You’ll Love This Chocolate Banana Cacao Smoothie

You will love this chocolate banana cacao smoothie because:

1. It is absolutely delicious and keeps you full! This is my own personal recipe, but I have to say that I like it better than the peanut power plus smoothie from smoothie king. It is rich, chocolatey, sweet and it’s all accomplished with cacao powder.

2. It is packed with nutrients. As I stated before, this cacao smoothie is full of antioxidants, fiber, and combats fatigue just to name a few things. I love smoothies in general, but when I can find one that also supports my health, that’s a win-win.

3. It’s cheap to make. Some of the ingredients can be a bit pricey on the front end; however, they last a long time. Take the bone broth powder from Ancient Nutrition for instance.

It can cost upwards of $30 but that’s for a 17 oz. container that lasts quite a while. This can also be used to make desserts, hot chocolate, and a host of other things that call for cacao powder.

4. It’s easy to make and can be used as a meal replacement. This cacao smoothie will take you about 5-6 minutes to make. I use a Vitamix blender, but you can use any blender of your choice. You will place all your ingredients in the blender (which are few) and blend away.

Once the smoothie is to your consistency, then it’s time to enjoy! Because of the high fiber content, it can be used as a meal replacement. I typically don’t need to eat for hours once I have had one.

How to Make This a Vegan Smoothie

A big bonus is that you can turn this smoothie recipe into a vegan smoothie very easily!  All you need to do is replace your standard milk with any non-dairy milk substitute.

I do not drink milk, so I only prefer this cacao smoothie to be made as a vegan smoothie.

I have used a couple of different milk substitutes and have found the following to taste the best:

  • Almond milk
  • Hemp milk

TIP: Be careful when selecting almond milk as some brands tend to have unhealthy additives like sugar, lecithin, and carrageenan. I prefer milk substitutes that are free of sugars, lecithins, and carrageenans.

Tips to Get The Best Tasting Chocolate Banana Cacao Smoothie

When making your Chocolate Banana Cacao Smoothie recipe you want to do the following to ensure you’re getting the best taste, quality, and overall nutritional benefit.

  1. Choose a high-quality cacao powder, like Navitas Organics
  2. Get ripe bananas as the nutrients will be higher
  3. (If vegan) Choose a clean milk-substitute option. You have to be careful when choosing milk substitutes as a lot of them contain harmful additives. I personally like Simply Almond Milk. They have a sugar-free option plus it’s free of lecithins, and carrageenans.
  4. (If using milk) Try a company that uses grass-fed cows/organic milk – click here for more info on the best dairy brands.
  5. Use local raw honey as your sweetener – This is no secret, but most honey found in the grocery stores has been so processed that it is no longer honey! Be sure to grab local raw honey to enjoy all the nutritional benefits.
  6. Choose an organic smooth peanut butter without high fructose corn syrup.
  7. Add in additional supplements like maca powder for an additional boost.

    1. Hey Jill,

Sure. I think it would not taste that great. The powder doesn’t have a strong flavor but the liquid bone broth does.
