We live in an ever-changing world with unforeseen circumstances, things out of our control, and life stressors that we must manage. Because of this, finding peace in God is imperative!
We’ll take a look at the following:
- What does God say about finding peace? Finding peace in God’s word.
- How do you get inner peace with God?
- Finding peace in God Bible Verses.
- Finding peace in God prayer.
Peace is defined as a state of concord or tranquility, to be or become silent, and to end hostilities and abstain from further fighting or antagonism.
I like to think of peace as inner stillness or an assurance deep within the soul. The words “Rest Assured” pop into my mind when I think of someone that has found peace in God.
When God is your source of peace it is a perpetual peace that you experience because it is not based on circumstances.
I think this is the biggest misconception when it comes to finding peace in God. Most of us are looking to our circumstances to tell us that we are at peace, but it’s quite the opposite when God is the source of your peace.
God is always the same. He never changes. Think about this. What makes you worry, fearful, anxious, afraid, or uncertain?
Usually, it’s change or the unknown. Well, when finding peace IN GOD is the main focus, you don’t have to worry about changing circumstances, being afraid of the unknown, or waiting for the shoe to drop.
You can have a constant state of peace because God is always the same, and his love and will for your life will always be good. IT NEVER CHANGES!!!!

What Does God Say About Finding Peace? (Finding peace in God’s Word)
The first question you want to ask yourself is “What is my source of peace?”
When you’re looking for peace, one of the first places you should go is to the prince of peace, Jesus.
Romans 5:1 tell us this, “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.“
Look at it like this…..Peace is a person, and that person is Jesus Christ.
The bible points to Jesus in more places than one when it comes to finding peace in God or with God.
Go directly to the source when you are lacking peace. Matthew 11:28-29 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest“.
Here the word of God is giving us exact directions again on what to do when we are burdened or heavy laden.
What a beautiful invitation from Jesus for our weary soul!
There have been several times that I have gone to other sources when looking for peace to only come up with nothing, or a short lived peace.
I have called friends, tried meditation, used essential oils, etc. Don’t get me wrong, these things help to cultivate peace, but what about when they are not working and I need true inner peace?
At this point, we must change our focus, change our words, and choose peace on purpose.

How Do You Get Inner Peace With God? (Walking In God’s Peace)
Finding inner peace with God comes from revelation knowledge about who he is and who you are to him.
One lesson that I have learned over the years is that peace is a choice!
Yes, peace produces those “good feeling” emotions, but actually walking in God’s peace is more of a choice than anything.
You may have to choose it every day, every moment, and even every second. Trust me, there will always be something trying to steal your peace!
I remember driving to work one morning, and I was praying to the Lord to give me peace, and this was his response.
“Peace is a choice, not a feeling”. That simple. Nothing more, nothing less.
At that moment I realized that I had been waiting for a feeling to fall on me when I had the power to choose it instead.
Below you will find a list of things to understand and ponder when you’re trying to find peace in God.
You can find peace in God by understanding the following Truths:
- It’s not a peace that the world can give you – Finding peace in God is not something that you can get from this world! It is much deeper than that.
- Rest in the finished work of the cross- Resting in what Jesus has already done produces a sense of peace that surpasses your understanding. And calls the soul to cease struggling.
- (Check the source of your peace) Learning that peace is not based on our circumstances- Having a revelation on this will help you remain in control of your own peace instead of being tossed to and FRO by circumstances.
- Understanding that peace has already been provided for us and we just need to receive- A lot of times we are trying to get something that has already been provided. Receive the peace that Jesus died to give you.
- By knowing and understanding the depth of his love for you- Knowing that you are loved and accepted completely by the father gives you peace like no other.
- Learning that peace is not a feeling but a choice- You have to choose peace. God told us to choose life, so every day choose to walk in peace and you will have victory.
- You can also find peace by knowing his word and what it has to say- God’s word is the final authority, so no matter what is threatening your peace, you can go to God and his word for answers.
- Not relying on your own strength to get through life/daily tasks- Relying on your own strength can be dangerous. When you rely on God’s strength you relieve the pressure and stress off of yourself, which brings peace.
- Understanding and trusting that God has a plan for you- We have all heard that God has a plan, but when you really contemplate that it brings this assurance and rest that you otherwise would not have. You are here on purpose and for purpose. Rest in that!
- God is with us now and in the future- This was a big one for me! God goes with you and before you. Understanding that you are safe with God is one of the biggest ways to find inner peace with God and your journey!

Finding Peace In God Prayer
Dear heavenly father, Lord I thank you for providing us with the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ!
Thank you, Lord, for directing my steps and showing me the path of peace for my life. Lord, I pray that you would lead and guide me into a persistent place of stillness with you.
Lord, I surrender my thoughts, plans, and commit to your will and your way. May I experience a deeper level of peace with you that the world and worldly possessions can’t give.
Father, help me to understand that I am in this world, but not of this world. Help me to understand that tribulations are a pathway to peace and that I have the power to choose peace at the beginning of every new day.
You, who came so that I might have life, have it in abundance, and so full that it starts to overflow, help me find peace in this life.
Help me to enjoy every day as it comes to me. Understanding that in you I can have abundant peace because you have already overcome the world.
