  3. Thanking God for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

  5. Reflecting and thanking God for answered prayers throughout the year

There is nothing like the holidays, and thanksgiving is a great segway to Christmas! It is a time to be thankful (which is most important), spend time with family, and eat good food. 😊

Most of all, it is a time of reflection on the many blessings God has bestowed upon you and your family. You also need to reflect on the lessons that you’ve learned throughout the year even the ones that came through hardship.

John 16: 33 tells us that in this world we WILL have tribulation. BUT THERE IS GOOD NEWS! Jesus tells us to be of good cheer for he has overcome the world.

It may not seem like it, but our trials can be a point of celebration as they create something in us more beautiful than the troubles themselves.

May you and your family enjoy these 20 prayer points for thanksgiving with bible verses. There is also a simple prayer at the end to pray over your meal as a thanksgiving blessing.

Have fun and enjoy the holidays!

How Many Times Does The Bible Tell Us To Be Thankful

The word thankful is mentioned in the bible 3 times

The word thankfulness is mentioned in the bible once

On the other hand, the word thanks is mentioned in the bible 73 times and the word thanksgiving is mentioned 28 times.

There are a couple of other variations that are mentioned once or twice; however, all in all, the bible mentions thankfulness in one way or another over 100 times.

In psalms 100:4, the writer is giving us instructions on how to approach God in a sense. It reads, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”

In Romans 1:21, the writer is doing the opposite and revealing those that were being unthankful. “Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened”.

Colossians 3:15 is a direct command for us to be thankful. “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”

So, whether we are being directly told to give thanks, or being called out for reasons why we are not being thankful I’d say that expressing some form of thanks is a pretty important part of your Christian life.

I know for me; my spirit feels lighter when I am expressing thanks vs. when I’m not.

If you’re looking for easy ways to express thanks, try the following: thank God for waking you up n the morning first thing, thank God for the meals you eat, and thank God every day for arriving to work safely.

What does it means To Give Thanksgiving To God

Thanksgiving to God all starts with a personal relationship with him.

More specifically, the word thankful in the bible means to revere or worship, so when we give God thanks, we are praising God for who he is and what he means to us personally.

Taking it a bit further, the word revere means to adore/devout religious worship. This shows us that we are called to love God as a form of worship.

We all have our own unique personal relationship with God, so it is important that as your give thanks you stay true to YOUR relationship with God.

We cannot worship or praise God for who he is by duplicating what we’ve seen in the church.

God has shown up for you in your own special way, so be sure to celebrate that uniqueness and worship the Lord based on those facts.

Authentic worship starts with identifying where you have been weak and Christ has been strong.

Praising and worshiping God can be done through:

  1. Song
  2. Praise dancing
  3. Prayer or speech
  4. Lifestyle

In the New Testament, the word thanks means to have gratitude; actually grateful language.

This is a huge insight that thankfulness to God is not just actions alone but by words also. We are to worship God with our mouths in song and in prayer.

I encourage you to consider how God has shown up for you in those special moments over your life as you worship and adore your God this thanksgiving.
